The United Arab Emirates has decided to "temporarily suspend" the issuance of all visas from March 17 this year, except for the holders of diplomatic passports.

The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship clarified in a statement today that this comes within the framework of the preventive and precautionary measures taken by the country in response to raising the level of the new Coronavirus (Covid-19) by the World Health Organization and considering it a pandemic, which makes travel at this stage highly dangerous.

It is worth noting that the decision does not apply to persons who have been issued visas before the effective date of this decision.

It pointed out that the decision to temporarily suspend visas comes until a mechanism for medical examination in the countries of departure is activated as an additional measure, due to the precautionary and preventive measures taking place in the countries of the world.

The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship affirmed at the end of its statement that this decision stems from the spirit of responsibility that the UAE has and within its efforts to combat this virus around the world and in solidarity with the countries of the world to cross this crisis safely.
